Possible Causes
Failed blower motor capacitor, faulty ECM blower motor, defective fan relay on Ideal control board, obstructed blower wheel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working near the blower. Blades can start unexpectedly and cause injury.
Steps:
- Listen to blower: When calling for heat, the blower should start smoothly and reach full speed. Humming without rotation suggests a failed capacitor or motor.
- Inspect blower wheel: With power off, remove the blower compartment cover and check for debris or heavy dust on the blower wheel. Clean carefully with a soft brush and vacuum.
- Check capacitor (visual): Locate the blower capacitor (on PSC motors). If it is bulged, leaking, or corroded, it should be replaced with the exact µF rating by a technician.
- If F16 persists: The ECM motor or control board fan relay may be faulty and require professional diagnosis and replacement.
