Possible Causes
Closed gas isolation valve, failed Ideal gas valve, faulty hot surface igniter, defective flame sensor preventing sustained operation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: If you smell gas, shut off the gas supply, ventilate the area, and call a qualified gas engineer immediately. Do not attempt to light the furnace manually.
Steps:
- Thermostat check: Ensure the thermostat is set to HEAT and the set temperature is above room temperature.
- Gas valve position: Verify that the manual gas cock near the furnace is fully open (handle in line with the pipe).
- Observe ignition: Through the sight glass, watch the start-up sequence. If the igniter does not glow or there is no flame, the igniter or gas valve may be faulty.
- Reset once: Turn the furnace off at the main switch for 2–3 minutes, then back on. If it still does not heat, do not continue resetting; call a technician.
