Possible Causes
Worn blower motor bearings, Loose blower wheel, Vibrating sheet metal panels, Debris in inducer or blower housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before touching moving parts.
Steps:
- Tighten panels: Ensure all furnace access panels are properly seated and screws are tight.
- Inspect blower wheel: Remove blower assembly and check that the wheel is tight on the shaft and not rubbing the housing.
- Listen to motor: Spin the blower wheel by hand; grinding or roughness indicates failing bearings and the motor should be replaced.
- Check inducer: Listen for rattling or scraping from the inducer; debris or a failing motor may be the cause.
Motor and inducer replacement should be done by a technician if you are not experienced with HVAC repairs.
