Possible Causes
Weak hot surface ignitor, Delayed gas valve opening, Improper burner alignment, Flame sensor not positioned correctly in flame
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power and gas before working in the burner compartment.
- Observe ignition sequence: Restore power and gas, then call for heat. Watch through the sight glass: inducer starts, ignitor glows, gas should flow, and burners should light smoothly. Note at which step failure occurs.
- Check ignitor glow: A weak, dull, or slow-to-glow ignitor may not reliably light gas. Inspect for cracks and replace if suspect with a Kelvinator-compatible ignitor.
- Burner alignment: Ensure burners are properly seated and aligned so that the ignitor is directly in the gas stream of the first burner.
- Flame sensor position: Confirm the flame sensor rod is in the burner flame when lit. If bent away, gently reposition so it is fully engulfed by flame.
- Reset lockout: Many Kelvinator furnaces will reset from lockout by turning power OFF for 30 seconds and then back ON. If E11 returns after multiple attempts, professional diagnosis of the gas valve and control board is recommended.
