Possible Causes
Blocked combustion air intake, Undersized or improperly installed intake piping, Strong negative pressure in mechanical room, Defective pressure switch on intake side (if separate)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power and gas before modifying intake piping.
- Check intake termination: Go outside and inspect the combustion air intake hood. Remove any obstructions such as leaves, snow, or insect nests.
- Verify pipe sizing: Ensure the PVC intake pipe diameter and length match Kelvinator installation requirements. Excessive length or too many elbows can prevent proper air flow.
- Room pressure: If the furnace is in a tight mechanical room, open a door or window temporarily and test operation. If E16 clears, additional combustion air openings may be needed.
- Inspect intake pressure switch: On models with separate intake and exhaust switches, check tubing and wiring to the intake pressure switch. Replace if defective.
