Possible Causes
Open high limit switch, Broken wire in limit circuit, Faulty limit wiring harness, Control board reading open limit when cool
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before checking limit wiring. Components may still be hot.
- Locate high limit: Find the main high limit switch mounted on the heat exchanger panel. Check that its wires are firmly connected.
- Inspect wiring harness: Follow the limit circuit wires from the switch back to the control board. Look for breaks, burns, or loose plugs.
- Cool-down test: Allow the furnace to sit with power OFF for 30 minutes to cool. Restore power. If E18 appears immediately without a heat call, the limit switch may be stuck open and require replacement.
- Replace limit switch: Use a Kelvinator-approved limit with the same temperature rating. Do not bypass the limit switch.
