Possible Causes
Blown 3A/5A low-voltage fuse on control board, Shorted thermostat wire, Shorted humidifier or accessory connected to R and C, Failed 24V transformer
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before replacing fuses or inspecting low-voltage wiring.
- Check low-voltage fuse: Locate the small automotive-style fuse on the Kelvinator control board. If blown, replace with the same amperage rating.
- Inspect thermostat cable: Look for staples driven through the thermostat wire, or bare copper touching metal. Repair or replace damaged sections.
- Disconnect accessories: Temporarily disconnect any humidifier, air cleaner, or other devices wired to R and C. Replace the fuse and test. If the fuse no longer blows, the accessory may be shorted.
- Transformer check: If the fuse is intact but there is still no 24V (thermostat blank), the 24V transformer may have failed and should be replaced by a technician.
