Possible Causes
Failed inducer draft motor, Seized inducer wheel, Open inducer motor capacitor (if equipped), Faulty inducer relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF gas supply at the shutoff valve and disconnect electrical power before servicing the inducer assembly.
- Listen for operation: With panels in place, restore power and call for heat. If the inducer is completely silent and E2 appears, proceed with checks.
- Check inducer wiring: Turn power OFF again. Inspect the two or three-wire plug going to the inducer motor. Ensure it is fully seated and wires are not burned or broken.
- Spin the inducer wheel: Remove the inducer housing cover if accessible. Gently spin the wheel by hand. It should rotate freely without scraping. A stiff or seized wheel indicates a failed inducer assembly.
- Check for obstructions: Inspect the vent connection at the inducer outlet for debris, bird nests, or ice that could lock the wheel.
- Test voltage (advanced): With power ON and a call for heat, a technician can measure 120 VAC at the inducer motor leads. If voltage is present but the motor does not run, replace the inducer assembly. If no voltage is present, the control board or safety circuit may be at fault.
- Replace inducer assembly: If the motor is noisy, seized, or overheated, replace the complete inducer draft motor assembly with a Kelvinator-compatible part.
