Possible Causes
Failed ECM or PSC blower motor, Open blower capacitor (PSC motors), Loose blower wiring harness, Faulty blower relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker and service switch before touching the blower assembly.
- Check blower operation: Set the thermostat fan switch to ON (not AUTO). If the blower does not run, suspect a motor or control issue.
- Inspect wiring: Remove the blower door and check the multi-pin plug or individual wires going to the blower motor. Ensure all connectors are fully seated and wires are not burned.
- Capacitor check (PSC motors): If your Kelvinator furnace uses a PSC motor, locate the run capacitor near the blower. Look for bulging, leaking oil, or corrosion. Replace with the same microfarad (µF) rating and voltage if defective.
- Spin the wheel: Try rotating the blower wheel by hand. It should spin freely. A stiff or locked wheel indicates bearing failure or debris in the housing.
- Professional testing: Measuring motor windings and control board outputs requires a multimeter and experience. If the blower still will not run, have a technician test and replace the blower motor or control board as needed.
