Possible Causes

Thermostat fan set to ON instead of AUTO, Stuck blower relay on control board, High limit switch open causing fan-only mode, Miswired G terminal

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power before working inside the furnace.

  • Thermostat setting: Check that the fan mode is set to AUTO, not ON. This is the most common cause.
  • Check high limit: If the furnace recently overheated, the control board may be running the fan to cool the heat exchanger. Replace a clogged filter and allow the furnace to cool.
  • Inspect wiring: Verify that the G wire from the thermostat is correctly connected and not shorted to R at the furnace control board.
  • Board relay: If the blower runs even with the thermostat disconnected, the blower relay on the Kelvinator control board may be stuck closed and the board will need replacement.
