Possible Causes
Worn blower motor bearings, Worn inducer motor bearings, Blower wheel rubbing housing, Loose motor mounting brackets
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power before touching moving parts.
- Isolate the source: Listen carefully to determine if the noise comes from the main blower (large fan) or the smaller inducer motor near the vent.
- Inspect blower: Remove the blower door and check that the blower wheel is centered and not rubbing the housing. Tighten set screws and mounting bolts.
- Check inducer: Inspect the inducer wheel for debris and ensure the housing screws are tight.
- Replace noisy motor: If the noise is due to worn bearings, the blower or inducer motor should be replaced with a Kelvinator-compatible motor. Lubrication is not usually possible on sealed motors.
