Possible Causes

Closed manual gas shutoff valve, Failed hot surface ignitor, Faulty gas valve coil, Broken ignitor wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off electrical power and gas before servicing. If you smell gas, do not attempt repairs—evacuate and call the gas utility.

  • Verify thermostat call: Ensure the thermostat is set to HEAT and above room temperature.
  • Check gas valve position: Confirm the manual gas shutoff near the Miller furnace is parallel to the pipe (open). If perpendicular, turn it to open.
  • Observe ignition sequence: With panels in place, restore power and call for heat. Look through the sight glass to see if the ignitor glows. If it does not, test and replace the hot surface ignitor.
  • Test gas valve: If the ignitor glows but burners do not light, measure 24V at the gas valve during ignition. If voltage is present but no flame, replace the gas valve. If no voltage, suspect the control board.
