Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety warning: An open rollout switch indicates a potentially dangerous combustion problem (possible carbon monoxide risk). If you smell gas or see signs of flame outside the burner area, shut off gas, turn off power, evacuate, and call a professional immediately.
- Visual inspection: With power and gas off, remove the burner compartment door. Locate the rollout switches (small disc switches with manual reset buttons near the burners). Look for signs of scorching, melted wiring, or soot around the burner area.
- Reset rollout switch: If the rollout switch has a red or white reset button, press it gently until it clicks. Do not repeatedly reset a rollout switch without finding the cause.
- Check venting: Inspect the flue pipe and vent termination for blockages, disconnections, or corrosion. Ensure the Napoleon-approved venting configuration is intact.
- Do not bypass: Never bypass or jumper a rollout switch to keep the furnace running. This is extremely dangerous.
- Professional service: If the rollout switch trips again or E06 returns, the heat exchanger or burner assembly may be compromised. Contact a licensed HVAC technician to inspect the heat exchanger, combustion air, and venting system.
