Possible Causes
Failed ECM or PSC blower motor, Faulty blower capacitor (PSC motors), Defective blower relay on control board, Loose blower wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before working on the blower assembly. Capacitors can hold a charge; discharge safely before handling.
- Check blower operation: Set the thermostat fan switch to ON. If the blower does not run, suspect motor, capacitor, or control.
- Inspect wiring: Remove blower compartment door and check the blower motor harness and plug at the control board. Reseat connectors and look for burned pins.
- Test capacitor (PSC only): If your Napoleon furnace uses a PSC motor, locate the run capacitor (metal can). Discharge it, then test with a capacitance meter. Replace if more than 10% out of rated value.
- Spin test: With power off, try spinning the blower wheel by hand. It should rotate freely. If stiff or seized, the motor bearings may be failed.
- When to replace: Replace a failed blower motor with the correct Napoleon-specified ECM or PSC motor and matching capacitor if required. If the motor tests good but never receives power, the control board fan relay may be defective and require board replacement.
