Possible Causes
Hot surface ignitor not receiving power, Broken ignitor, Gas valve not opening, Faulty ignition control circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas before accessing burner and gas components.
- Visual check of ignitor: Observe through the sight glass during a call for heat. If the ignitor never glows, test it for continuity and replace if open.
- Check ignitor wiring: Inspect the ignitor harness from the control board to the ignitor. Reseat connectors and look for damaged insulation.
- Gas valve operation: If the ignitor glows but there is no flame, listen for the gas valve click. If no click, measure for 24V at the gas valve during ignition. If 24V is present but no gas, the valve is faulty and must be replaced by a professional.
- Board fault: If the ignitor never receives power and wiring is intact, the control board ignition circuit may be defective.
