Possible Causes

Shorted flame rod to ground, Broken flame rod insulator, Faulty flame sensing circuit on PCB, Incorrect grounding of unit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power and gas. Flame sensing is part of the safety system; improper repair can be hazardous.

  • Inspect flame rod: Remove the flame rod from the burner assembly. Check the ceramic insulator for cracks and ensure the metal rod is not bent into contact with the burner or ground. Replace if damaged.
  • Clean flame rod: Lightly polish the rod with fine abrasive pad to remove oxidation. Do not sand the ceramic.
  • Check wiring and grounding: Ensure the flame rod wire is intact and firmly connected to the PCB. Verify that the furnace chassis is properly grounded to the electrical system ground.
  • Reinstall and test: Reinstall the flame rod, restore power and gas, and reset the unit. If E110 persists, the flame sensing circuit on the PCB may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
