Possible Causes
Repeated ignition failures, repeated limit trips, control board internal fault, improper line voltage, unstable 24V supply
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Determine and correct the underlying cause (ignition, limit, or airflow) before repeatedly resetting the furnace.
- Note prior codes: Many Payne boards store the last few fault codes. Observe the LED sequence before and after reset to identify the root cause (e.g., 14, 33, 34).
- Reset power: Turn off power for at least 30 seconds, then restore. Monitor the next heating cycle closely.
- Check line voltage: Verify 120 VAC supply is stable and within tolerance. Loose neutrals or shared circuits can cause control issues.
- Inspect control board: Look for burn marks, corrosion, or swollen components. If present, replace the integrated furnace control.
- If lockout recurs: Do not continue resetting. Address the underlying ignition, gas, or airflow problem, or contact a qualified technician.
