Possible Causes
Worn blower motor bearings, worn inducer motor bearings, misaligned blower wheel, loose belt (on very old belt-drive models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before touching moving parts.
- Isolate the source: Listen near the blower compartment and inducer area to determine which component is squealing.
- Inspect blower motor: Remove blower door and check for play in the motor shaft. If the shaft is loose or noisy when spun by hand, replace the motor.
- Inspect inducer motor: If noise is from the inducer, remove the inducer assembly and check for bearing roughness. Replace the inducer motor assembly if noisy.
- Check blower wheel alignment: Ensure the wheel is centered in the housing and not rubbing.
