Possible Causes
No gas supply, closed manual gas shutoff, air in gas line after service, failed gas valve coil, broken igniter, misaligned burners
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and power before removing burner doors. If you smell strong gas, ventilate the area and do not operate electrical switches.
- Confirm gas supply: Ensure the gas meter valve is open and the appliance shutoff valve near the furnace is fully open.
- Bleed air from line (by pro only): After gas service, air in the line can prevent ignition. This should be purged by a licensed technician.
- Inspect igniter: Check for visible cracks or breaks. If the igniter does not glow during the ignition sequence, test for 120 VAC at its leads. Replace if defective.
- Check gas valve operation: Listen for a click from the gas valve after the igniter glows. If no click and proper voltage is present at the valve, replace the gas valve with a Payne-approved part.
- Clean and align burners: Remove and clean burners; ensure they are properly seated and aligned with the igniter and flame sensor.
