Possible Causes
Dirty filter, restricted return air, dirty evaporator coil, blower motor overheating and shutting off on internal overload, incorrect blower speed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Overheating can damage the furnace. Address airflow and blower issues promptly.
- Replace filter and open returns: Ensure unrestricted airflow to the furnace.
- Check blower motor temperature: After running, carefully feel the blower motor housing. If extremely hot and the blower stops while burners are still on, the motor may be overheating.
- Clean evaporator coil: Have the A-coil cleaned if it is dirty and restricting airflow.
- Adjust blower speed: Increase blower speed for heating if allowed by the manufacturer to reduce temperature rise.
- Replace failing motor: If the motor repeatedly overheats and shuts off, replace it with a Payne-compatible blower motor.
