Possible Causes
Clogged condensate trap, blocked condensate drain line, cracked drain hose, improperly sloped drain tubing, frozen condensate line
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before working around water and electrical components.
- Locate condensate system: On condensing Payne furnaces, find the plastic condensate trap and attached hoses.
- Clear trap: Remove the trap and flush it with warm water to remove slime and debris. Reassemble per the manufacturer's orientation.
- Flush drain line: Use a wet/dry vacuum at the drain termination to pull out clogs, or blow out the line with low-pressure air.
- Check hose routing: Ensure hoses slope downward with no sags that can hold water.
- Replace cracked hoses: Install new condensate tubing if any sections are brittle or leaking.
