Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Emergency safety warning: If you smell gas (rotten egg odor), do not operate any electrical switches, do not use phones inside the building, and do not light any flames.
Immediate actions:
- 1. Evacuate: Leave the building immediately.
- 2. Shut off gas (only if safe): If the main gas shutoff is outdoors and easily accessible, turn it off by rotating the valve a quarter turn so it is perpendicular to the pipe.
- 3. Call for help: From a safe location, call your gas utility or fire department.
Do not attempt repairs yourself: A licensed technician must locate and repair any gas leaks and may replace the Philco furnace gas valve or piping as needed.
