Possible Causes
Blocked condensate trap, Frozen or blocked condensate pipe, Incorrect condensate pipe fall, Flue condensate backing up into heat exchanger
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate power. Condensate is mildly acidic; wear gloves and eye protection when handling.
User checks:
- In freezing weather, check the external condensate pipe for ice. If frozen, thaw gently with warm (not boiling) water and lag the pipe.
- Reset the furnace after thawing and observe operation.
Technician checks:
- Remove and clean the condensate trap and siphon, flushing out sludge and debris.
- Verify correct fall and routing of the condensate pipe to prevent standing water.
- Inspect the flue for signs of condensate leakage or misalignment.
- Check that the condensate level sensor (if fitted) operates correctly.
