Possible Causes
Weak or dirty flame sensor, Poor burner ground, Low gas pressure, Faulty control board flame circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas before removing burner access.
- Clean flame sensor: Remove and gently clean the sensor rod with fine abrasive pad. Reinstall securely.
- Check ground and wiring: Tighten burner ground screws and inspect the flame sensor wire for damage or loose connections.
- Observe flame quality: After restoring power, watch the burners. Flames should be stable and blue. If they lift off or appear weak, have gas pressure and combustion checked professionally.
- Board evaluation: If flame is strong and sensor is clean but the furnace still drops out, the control board may not be reading flame current correctly and may need replacement.
Do not attempt to adjust gas orifices or regulator without proper training.
