Possible Causes
Failed ECM blower motor, Faulty blower run capacitor (PSC motors), Loose blower wiring, Control board fan relay failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before working on the blower assembly.
- Check blower wheel: Inspect for obstructions or heavy dust buildup that could overload the motor.
- Test capacitor (PSC): If your Rheem furnace uses a PSC motor, test the run capacitor with a capacitance meter and replace if out of tolerance.
- Inspect ECM module (if equipped): For ECM motors, check the motor module connector for corrosion or loose pins. Many Rheem ECM motors require replacement of the entire motor/module assembly if failed.
- Verify board output: Confirm the control board is sending the correct voltage or signal to the blower motor when a call for heat or fan is present.
Because blower motors are heavy and wiring is complex, many homeowners choose professional replacement.
