Possible Causes
Failed inducer motor, Seized inducer bearings, Blocked inducer wheel, Faulty control board inducer relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas before accessing the inducer assembly.
- Listen for inducer: On a call for heat, the inducer should start first. If it hums but does not spin, the motor may be seized.
- Inspect for blockage: Remove the inducer housing if accessible and check for debris, rust flakes, or water accumulation.
- Check voltage: With a multimeter and power on, verify that the control board sends proper line voltage to the inducer terminals when a call for heat is present. If voltage is present but the motor does not run, replace the inducer.
- Board check: If no voltage is present and other safeties are satisfied, the control board relay may be defective.
Ensure all gaskets are properly sealed when reinstalling the inducer to prevent flue gas leaks.
