Critical safety warning: A rollout switch trip indicates flames or excessive heat leaving the burner area. This can mean a cracked heat exchanger or blocked flue and can allow carbon monoxide into the home. Do not repeatedly reset rollout switches without finding the cause.

• Turn off gas and power: Immediately shut off the furnace and allow it to cool.
• Locate rollout switches: These are small, manual-reset switches near the burners with a red or white reset button. If tripped, they will click when gently pressed.
• Inspect burner compartment: Look for signs of scorching, melted wiring, or soot buildup. Do not operate the furnace if you see damage.
• Check venting: Inspect flue pipe for disconnections, blockages, or corrosion. Ensure vent termination is clear outside.

Because rollout events are potentially life-threatening, have a licensed HVAC technician inspect the heat exchanger and combustion system before returning the furnace to service.
