Possible Causes
Failed hot surface ignitor, No gas flow to burners, Faulty gas valve coil, Incorrect line or manifold gas pressure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Shut off gas and power before working on the gas train. Gas leaks and improper adjustments are dangerous.
- Reset lockout: Turn off power to the furnace for at least 30 seconds, then restore. This clears the lockout so you can observe the next ignition attempt.
- Watch ignition sequence: Call for heat and observe through the sight glass: inducer starts, pressure switch closes, ignitor glows, gas valve clicks, burners light. Note at which step it fails.
- Test ignitor: If the ignitor never glows, test it with an ohmmeter. A cracked or open ignitor must be replaced with the correct Rheem-rated part.
- Check gas valve operation: If the ignitor glows but burners never light, listen for the gas valve click. Verify the manual gas shutoff is open. If no click and proper voltage is present at the valve during ignition, the gas valve is likely defective.
Do not attempt to adjust gas pressure without proper tools and training. Contact a licensed technician for gas valve or pressure issues.
