Condensate Drain Leak or Blockage
Water leaking around the base of a high-efficiency Rheem furnace

Possible Causes
Clogged condensate trap, Cracked condensate drain hose, Improperly sloped drain line, Loose drain fittings at collector box
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before working near electrical components. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.
- Locate condensate system: Identify the plastic trap and drain hoses connected to the furnace and flue.
- Clear trap: Remove the trap (note orientation), flush it with water, and clear any slime or debris. Reinstall in the same orientation.
- Inspect hoses: Check for cracks, kinks, or loose connections. Replace damaged tubing with appropriate condensate hose.
- Verify slope: Ensure the drain line slopes continuously downward to the floor drain or pump.
Do not operate the furnace with a known condensate leak; water can damage the control board and blower.
