Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and close the system isolation valves if present. Place a tray under the unit to catch water.
- Identify leak source: Remove the front panel and use a flashlight to trace water back to its highest visible point.
- Check pump and unions: Inspect the circulation pump body and nearby unions for drips. Gently tighten unions if slightly loose, but do not overtighten.
- Inspect air vent: Look at the automatic air vent on top of the pump or heat exchanger. If it is wet, its cap may be loose or the vent may be faulty.
- Examine heat exchanger: Signs of rust or white deposits on the exchanger body indicate a possible crack, requiring replacement.
Warning: Do not continue operating a leaking furnace; water can damage electrical components and cause unsafe conditions.
