Possible Causes
Shorted blower motor windings, shorted inducer motor, pinched wire in Tappan furnace cabinet, incorrect breaker size
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Frequent breaker trips indicate a serious electrical issue. Do not repeatedly reset the breaker without finding the cause.
Steps:
- Inspect visible wiring inside the furnace for pinched or rubbed insulation, especially around the blower and inducer.
- Disconnect the blower motor and run the furnace (heat call) briefly. If the breaker no longer trips, the blower motor is suspect.
- Similarly, test with the inducer disconnected (only under technician supervision, as safeties will prevent firing).
- Have a technician measure motor current draw and compare to nameplate ratings. Replace any motor drawing excessive current.
