Possible Causes
Worn blower motor bearings, loose or misaligned blower wheel, debris in blower housing, on older belt-drive Tappan units a worn belt
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before reaching into blower compartment.
Steps:
- Remove the blower compartment door and visually inspect the blower wheel for debris or rubbing against the housing. Remove any foreign objects.
- Spin the blower wheel by hand. If it feels rough or wobbly, the motor bearings or wheel hub may be worn.
- On belt-drive models, inspect the belt for cracks or glazing and replace if worn. Adjust belt tension per the service manual.
- If the motor squeals loudly at startup or continuously, plan to replace the blower motor and capacitor.
