Furnace produces a high-pitched whine or rumbling noise during operation.

Safety: Turn off power before touching moving parts.

• Step 1 – Isolate noise source: Remove the blower door and listen carefully to determine if the noise comes from the inducer (upper section) or blower (lower section).
• Step 2 – Inspect blower wheel: Check for loose set screws or rubbing against the housing. Tighten and realign as needed.
• Step 3 – Check inducer: Remove the inducer cover if accessible and look for debris. Clean carefully and reassemble.
• Step 4 – Replace noisy motor: If bearings are clearly worn (grinding or squealing), replace the Tempstar inducer or blower motor assembly.
