Possible Causes
Dirty air filter, Oversized Tempstar furnace for duct system, Faulty thermostat placement (near heat source), Weak high limit switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before opening panels.
- Step 1 – Replace filter: Install a clean filter of the correct size and MERV rating. Avoid overly restrictive filters.
- Step 2 – Check vents: Ensure all supply and return vents are open and unobstructed.
- Step 3 – Inspect thermostat location: Make sure the thermostat is not near a supply register, in direct sunlight, or near heat-producing appliances. Relocate if necessary.
- Step 4 – Monitor operation: After corrections, run the furnace and see if cycles lengthen. If short cycling persists, have a technician evaluate furnace sizing, ductwork, and the Tempstar limit switch.
