• 1. Inspect furnace interior: With power off, remove access panels and look for plastic, tape, or packaging material left on or near the heat exchanger or burners. Remove any foreign material.
• 2. Check supply registers: Inspect supply vents for toys, plastic objects, or other items that may have fallen in and are heating up.
• 3. New installations: Some odor is normal from new duct sealants or coatings and should dissipate after a few hours of operation. If it persists, consult the installer.
• 4. If odor resembles burning plastic or wiring: Have a technician inspect for overheating electrical components.
