Possible Causes
Worn blower motor bearings, Worn inducer motor bearings, Blower wheel rubbing housing, Loose mounting hardware
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before inspecting moving parts.
- 1. Identify noise source: Remove the blower and burner access panels on the Thermia furnace and briefly run the unit to determine whether the noise comes from the main blower or the inducer.
- 2. Inspect blower assembly: With power off, spin the blower wheel by hand. If it grinds or wobbles, the motor bearings may be failing. Check that the wheel is centered and not rubbing the housing.
- 3. Inspect inducer assembly: Spin the inducer wheel by hand. Listen for scraping or roughness. Check for debris.
- 4. Tighten hardware: Tighten mounting screws on the blower and inducer assemblies.
- 5. Replace failing motor: If bearings are noisy, replace the blower or inducer motor assembly with a Thermia-compatible part.
