Possible Causes
Worn blower motor bearings, Worn inducer motor bearings, Loose or misaligned blower wheel, Debris in inducer housing on Thermo Pride furnace
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Turn off power before touching any moving parts.
- Identify noise source: Remove the blower door and briefly run the furnace to determine if the noise comes from the main blower or the inducer (small motor near vent).
- Inspect blower wheel: With power off, spin the blower wheel by hand. It should rotate smoothly without scraping. Tighten the set screw on the motor shaft if loose.
- Check for debris: Inspect the inducer housing and blower compartment for foreign objects rubbing against the wheel.
- Plan for motor replacement: If bearings are noisy or there is excessive play in the shaft, the motor will need replacement by a technician using a Thermo Pride-compatible motor.
