Possible Causes
Clogged air filter restricting airflow, Closed or blocked supply/return registers, Failed circulating blower motor or capacitor, Defective high limit switch stuck open
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before removing panels. Components may be hot.
Steps:
- Check and replace the furnace filter with the correct size and airflow rating recommended for your Westinghouse model.
- Ensure all supply and return registers are open and not blocked by furniture or rugs.
- Remove the blower compartment door and inspect the blower wheel for heavy dust buildup; clean if accessible.
- With power restored, call for heat and verify that the blower starts on time and runs smoothly. If the motor hums, overheats, or fails to start, the motor or run capacitor may be failing.
- Locate the high limit switch mounted on the heat exchanger panel. With power OFF, check for continuity across the switch. If it is open at room temperature and does not reset, replace the limit switch.
Note: Persistent limit trips after airflow issues are corrected require professional diagnosis of heat exchanger and gas input.
