Possible Causes

Open hot surface ignitor, Broken ignitor wiring harness, Defective ignitor relay on IFC, Incorrect ignitor replacement with wrong resistance

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power and gas. Ignitor is fragile; handle carefully.

Steps:

  • Locate the hot surface ignitor mounted near the burners.
  • Disconnect the ignitor plug and measure resistance across the ignitor leads with a multimeter. Typical values are 40–90 Ω; OL (open) indicates a failed ignitor.
  • Inspect the ceramic base and element for cracks or chips; replace if damaged.
  • Install a Westinghouse-approved replacement ignitor with the same electrical rating and mounting style. Do not touch the element with bare fingers.
  • Check the ignitor wiring harness for burns or loose connections at the IFC.
  • Restore power and test a heat cycle.
