Possible Causes
Closed manual gas shutoff valve, Failed gas valve coil, Broken gas valve wiring, Low or no gas supply pressure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Gas safety: If you smell gas, evacuate the area and contact your gas utility. Do not attempt repairs.
Steps (if no gas smell):
- Verify that the manual gas shutoff valve near the furnace is fully open (handle parallel to the pipe).
- Inspect the gas valve wiring harness for secure connections and no damage.
- During an ignition attempt, a trained person can check for 24 V AC at the gas valve terminals when the ignitor is hot. If 24 V is present but the valve does not open, the valve is likely defective and should be replaced.
- If no 24 V is present, the IFC or safety circuit is preventing valve operation; a technician should diagnose why.
Note: Gas valve replacement and gas pressure adjustment must be performed by a qualified technician with proper test equipment.
