Possible Causes
Faulty ignition transformer on PCB, Damaged ignition lead, Incorrect electrode position, Gas valve not energised
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas before removing covers. Gas work must be done by a Gas Safe engineer.
- Single reset attempt: Press the reset button once. If the boiler still fails to ignite and E1 218 returns, further diagnosis is needed.
- Visual inspection: Check the ignition lead for cracks, burns, or loose connections at the electrode and PCB.
- Engineer tasks: A professional should verify spark generation at the electrode, test the ignition circuit on the PCB, and confirm that the gas valve is being energised during ignition. Replace the ignition lead or PCB if defective.
