Possible Causes
Unstable gas supply to Worcester gas valve, partially blocked burner, faulty flame rectification circuit on PCB, flue or condensate blockage affecting combustion
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the boiler if it repeatedly locks out. Do not interfere with gas components unless qualified.
Homeowner checks:
- Check that the gas meter emergency control valve is fully open.
- Ensure condensate pipe is not frozen or blocked (especially in cold weather). If external, thaw gently with warm (not boiling) water and lag the pipe.
- Visually inspect the flue terminal for obstructions.
- Reset the boiler once after clearing any obvious issues.
Engineer checks:
- Check gas supply stability and working pressure at the boiler during operation.
- Inspect burner for contamination or partial blockage; clean or replace.
- Test flame rectification current and wiring between flame sensor and Worcester control board.
- Verify flue integrity and correct condensate drainage from the condensing heat exchanger.
Intermittent flame loss can be dangerous; a Gas Safe engineer should diagnose and correct the underlying cause.
