Possible Causes

Blocked safety beam lenses, misaligned safety beam brackets, broken or reversed safety beam wiring, failed safety beam transmitter/receiver pair

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not bypass or permanently disable the safety beams. They prevent the door from closing on people, pets, or vehicles.

  • Step 1 – Clear obstructions: Check both B&D safety beam units near the bottom of the tracks. Remove any leaves, cobwebs, dust, or stored items blocking the lenses.
  • Step 2 – Clean lenses: With power on, gently clean each lens with a soft cloth and mild glass cleaner. Avoid scratching the plastic.
  • Step 3 – Check indicator LEDs: Most B&D beams have an LED on each unit. Confirm that both LEDs are lit solid when aligned. If one is off or flickering, alignment or wiring is suspect.
  • Step 4 – Align the beams: Loosen the mounting screws on the brackets and gently rotate each sensor until the LEDs turn solid. Tighten the screws while holding alignment.
  • Step 5 – Inspect wiring: Trace the low‑voltage cables from the beams back to the opener head. Look for cuts, crushed sections, or loose connections at the terminal block (often marked SAFE, IR, or PHOTO). Re‑terminate any loose wires and ensure polarity matches the manual.
  • Step 6 – Test operation: Try closing the door with the remote. If E2 persists and one LED remains off despite correct wiring and alignment, replace the faulty safety beam pair with a compatible B&D set.
