Possible Causes
Surge‑damaged logic board, corrupted firmware, shorted low‑voltage accessory wiring, internal power supply failure on PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before opening the opener housing. If you smell burning or see scorch marks, do not power the unit again.
- Step 1 – Power reset: Unplug the opener for at least 2 minutes to fully discharge internal capacitors. Plug back in and check if E6 clears.
- Step 2 – Disconnect accessories: With power off, disconnect all low‑voltage accessories from the terminal block (wall control, safety beams, key switch, etc.). Restore power and see if the error clears. If it does, reconnect accessories one at a time to identify a shorted device.
- Step 3 – Inspect PCB: Remove the cover and visually inspect the B&D control board for burnt components, swollen capacitors, or corrosion. Do not touch components with power applied.
- Step 4 – Firmware reset (if supported): Some B&D models allow a factory reset via a specific button sequence (e.g., holding SET/PROGRAM for several seconds). Follow the manual to perform a reset, then re‑program limits and remotes.
- Step 5 – Replace control board: If E6 persists with all accessories disconnected and after reset, the logic board is defective. Replace the control board with the exact B&D part number or contact a technician to do so.
