Possible Causes
Failed internal power supply on control board, loose mains connection, defective transformer, shorted accessory drawing excess current
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before opening the unit. Mains voltage is present inside the opener and can be lethal.
- Step 1 – Verify outlet power: Plug a lamp or tester into the same outlet as the opener to confirm correct voltage and polarity.
- Step 2 – Inspect mains cord and plug: Check the B&D opener power cord for cuts, burns, or loose connections at the strain relief. Replace if damaged.
- Step 3 – Disconnect accessories: With power off, remove all low‑voltage accessory connections from the terminal block. Restore power and see if E8 clears. A shorted accessory can drag down the internal supply.
- Step 4 – Internal inspection: Remove the cover and look for a separate transformer or power module. Check for burnt smell, discoloration, or bulging capacitors. Do not touch live parts.
- Step 5 – Board or transformer replacement: If the external supply is good but E8 persists, the internal power supply or transformer is likely failed. Replace the transformer or entire control board assembly as specified by B&D.
