Possible Causes
Failed RF receiver module, corrupted non‑volatile memory, antenna damage, interference from nearby RF devices
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Work with power disconnected when accessing internal boards. Do not modify antenna length beyond manufacturer specifications.
- Step 1 – Clear and re‑program remotes: Use the B&D LEARN or CODE button to erase all remotes (usually by holding until the LED flashes) and then re‑program each remote. If E9 appears during programming, continue with hardware checks.
- Step 2 – Inspect antenna: Locate the B&D opener antenna wire. Ensure it is intact, not cut short, and hanging down freely away from metal surfaces.
- Step 3 – Reduce interference: Temporarily unplug nearby RF devices (Wi‑Fi extenders, baby monitors, etc.) and test remote operation. If E9 clears, relocate the interfering device.
- Step 4 – Check receiver module: Some B&D models use a plug‑in RF receiver board. With power off, reseat the module or replace it with a compatible B&D receiver.
- Step 5 – Replace main board: If the RF module is integrated and E9 persists after reset, the control board memory or RF section is faulty and the board must be replaced.
