Possible Causes
Battery connected backwards, Wrong battery voltage, Charging circuit fault, Loose or shorted battery leads
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately disconnect AC power and the battery if you suspect reverse polarity or overheating. Batteries can vent or explode if miswired.
Steps to fix:
- Check polarity: Confirm the red lead is on the positive (+) terminal and the black lead is on the negative (−) terminal of the battery.
- Verify battery type: Use only the Chamberlain-specified 12V battery. Remove any incorrect battery.
- Inspect leads: Look for pinched or shorted battery wires inside the housing. Repair or replace as needed.
- Install new battery: If the existing battery has been connected incorrectly, replace it with a new one.
- Test operation: Reconnect power and confirm the beeping and 5-3 code are cleared. If not, the charging circuit on the logic board may be damaged and require replacement.
