Possible Causes
Dry rollers and hinges, Loose chain or belt, Worn sprocket or gear, Loose opener mounting hardware
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and pull the emergency release before working on the door hardware. Do not place fingers between door sections.
Steps to fix:
- Inspect rollers and hinges: Look for worn, cracked, or metal-on-metal rollers. Replace with nylon rollers for quieter operation.
- Lubricate: Apply a silicone or lithium-based garage door lubricant to rollers, hinges, and bearings. Do not over-lubricate the tracks.
- Check chain/belt tension: Adjust tension so there is about 1/4 inch sag at the midpoint for chain, and slight deflection for belt, per Chamberlain specs.
- Tighten hardware: Tighten all track brackets, opener mounting brackets, and rail bolts.
