Opener will not run; lights flash five times when attempting to operate; motor does not hum or move.

Safety first: Unplug the opener and wait several minutes for internal capacitors to discharge before touching internal components. Do not bypass thermal protectors or fuses.

• Check for overheating: If the opener was used repeatedly, allow it to cool for 15–20 minutes and try again. A tripped thermal protector may reset when cooled.
• Inspect motor harness: Remove the opener cover. Locate the multi-pin connector from the motor to the logic board. Ensure it is fully seated and free of corrosion or burn marks.
• Listen for motor hum: Restore power and press the wall button while standing clear of moving parts. If there is no sound at all and the 5-flash code appears, the motor circuit is likely open.
• Check for burnt odor: A strong burnt smell or visible discoloration on the motor housing indicates internal failure.
• Replace motor assembly: Craftsman motors are typically replaced as a complete motor and gear assembly. Disconnect power, remove the chain/belt from the sprocket, disconnect wiring, and swap in the new motor assembly following the service manual.
• Test operation: After reassembly, reattach the chain/belt, set proper tension, and run a full open/close cycle to confirm normal operation.
