Possible Causes
Stuck remote button, Neighbor's remote on same code (older units), Interference from wireless devices, Shorted wall control wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Until resolved, unplug the opener when away for extended periods to prevent unauthorized access.
- Check remotes: Inspect all Craftsman remotes for stuck or jammed buttons. Remove batteries from any suspect remotes.
- Inspect wall control wiring: Look for crushed or shorted wires between the wall control and opener. Shorts can simulate a pressed button.
- Clear and reprogram codes: Press and hold the opener's LEARN button until the LED goes out to erase all remotes. Then reprogram only your current remotes and keypad.
- Change keypad PIN: If you suspect someone knows your code, program a new PIN on the wireless keypad.
- Reduce interference: Keep wireless routers, baby monitors, and similar devices away from the opener head if possible. If the issue persists, consider upgrading to a newer Craftsman opener with rolling-code security.
